Round Table "Solar Energy" - Georgia-Germany

In IDC office Round table discussion on “solar energy” was held, event was organized by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia (SRNSFG) and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to Georgia. The event was opened by Giorgi Kekelidze, representative of Renewable Energy Association of Europe and CEO of International Foundation for Innovative Technologies. Director General of Rustaveli Foundation – Prof. Zviad Gabionia spoke about the importance of commercialization of applied research, new programs and calls announced by SRNSFG in this regard, the need to intensify the relations between scientific and the private sector. The Ambassador of Germany in Georgia, his excellency, Hubert Knirsch addressed the participants of the meeting.

The potential of solar power generation is being explored jointly by the Berlin Consultation agency – “Eclareon”, German Solar Industry Association and International Foundation for Innovative Technologies. Research of conditions for solar energy (for photovoltaics) application opportunities, study of investment conditions is being implemented in partnership with “Eclareon” project - BSW-solar with the support of the Federal Foreign Office.

The partners want to explore the potential of 50 kW to 5 megawatts of photovoltaic diesel hybrid systems in regions, where there is no connection to the common power grid, especially in areas where the road infrastructure is unsuitable and consequently, it is expensive to deliver diesel. Attention will also be given to 100 kV photovoltaic systems that are connected to the grid and placed on the roofs.

During the seminar issues related to the development and application of photovoltaics in Georgia were discussed.  Seminar was attended by the Managing Director of International Relations of the German Solar Industry Association; Eclareon Director and Chairman of the German Solar Association Photovoltaic Export working group; Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Director of AE Solar, Department of Environment and Climate Change of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Goethe Institute of Georgia, Member of the Council of Eurosolar in Georgia.
