Scientific forum – “Perspectives of Science Development in Georgia “

On March 29,2019 at 11:00, Scientific forum- “Perspectives of science development in Georgia” was held at the Conference hall of the hotel - Redison Blu Iveria.

Science is defined as one of the top priorities for country’s sustainable development, and therefore promoting Scientists and scientific fields in general, is one of the leading direction of the recent “Education Reform”. It means on the one hand identification and supporting strategic scientific projects and, on the other hand promoting young researchers and their active involvement in the international scientific projects.

Those goals require active communication and for this purpose, with the initiative and support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia hosted a scientific forum - "Perspectives of science development in Georgia".

The aim of the forum is to review and define existing challenges, perspectives and the important scientific priorities for the country in science.

The forum was opened by Mr. Mikheil Batiashvili, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia. Deputy Minister –Ms. Irina Abuladze reviewed education reform challenges and prospects for the future.  The Director General of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia presented the strategy for system reforms and importance of development of scientific priorities.

The perspectives of science development were also discussed by:

  • Roin Metreveli - Vice-President of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences
  • Guram Aleqsidze - President of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Georgia
  • Giorgi Sharvashidze - Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University
  • Zurab Gasitashvili - Deputy Rector of Georgian Technical University in Science
  • Giga Zedania - Rector of Ilia State University
  • Zurab Xonelidze - Rector of Sokhumi State University

The Parallel panel sessions were held in six scientific directions, and each field representatives have discussed and developed recommendations for determining scientific priorities.

The forum was attended by the representatives of the Government of Georgia, Higher Education Institutions, Scientific-Research Institutions, representatives of diplomatic missions and International Organizations in Georgia.
