The aim of the competition: to facilitate the identification of highly qualified scientific personnel in the field of exact and natural sciences, engineering and technologies (biotechnology), to integrate research and training processes and to finance long-term (5-7 years) research projects. Within the framework of the millennium challenges of Georgia, special attention is paid to the high qualitied, international standard-based scientific research in natural science and engineering directions (STEM). The development of these scientific fields is considered to be strategic priorities for promoting economic and socio-political progress of the country. It is possible to fund both sectoral and inter-disciplinary research groups within the targeted program. The focus is on international standards, conducting high-quality scientific research and on the internationalization of scientific circles, returning Georgian scientists back to Georgia and involving international researchers and local young scientists, including talented, successful MA and PhD students, in high-quality research centers by long-term cooperation with international leading research centers.

 

Target Groups of Competition: Successful Georgian scientists working in independent research centers and higher education institutions of Georgia, research institutions, independent research centers and scientists working in foreign universities, research institutes. At least 50% of the key research personnel presented in the competition terms should be the so-called “weapon” scientists.

 

Duration: Research projects under the terms of the grant competition signed between LEPL Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation and Science and Technology Center in Ukraine (STCU)  should last for 12, 24 or 36 months.
